Matumi Camp - Roof Construction in Kruger National Park, South Africa
Matumi Camp is a timber residence located within the Kruger National Park, designed to integrate seamlessly into its natural surroundings. The architecture is defined by a generous thatched roof, deep overhangs and a clear structural rhythm of exposed timber columns, creating shaded transitional spaces between inside and outside.
Holzbau Hess was responsible for the engineering design, manufacture and installation of the timber structure. Prefabrication and precise detailing ensured efficient on-site assembly and a high level of construction quality in this remote location.
The project demonstrates the potential of modern timber construction in environmentally sensitive contexts, combining structural clarity, durability and architectural restraint.
