Harrington Excelsior – Timber Hotel Building in Cape Town, South Africa
Situated in the vibrant urban fabric of Cape Town’s Harrington Street, the Harrington Excelsior project showcases Holzbau Hess’s ability to bring quality timber construction into contemporary hospitality architecture. Commissioned as a bespoke timber solution for the Excelsior Hotel, our team delivered a comprehensive package of engineering design, precision manufacture, and on‑site installation, elevating the aesthetic and structural expression of this landmark development.
In collaboration with Wolf + Wolf Architects (South Africa) and Pirmin Jung Structure Design (Germany), Holzbau Hess executed an intricately detailed timber framework using South African pine and eucalyptus, with satin varnish finishes and fire‑retardant treatment tailored for durability and visual warmth. Every element was designed to harmonise with the surrounding urban context while providing robust performance in a demanding hospitality environment.
Harrington Excelsior reflects our commitment to precision timber craftsmanship and thoughtful architectural integration. This project highlights how engineered timber solutions can complement modern architecture — enhancing spatial experience, material richness, and structural sophistication within a dynamic city setting.
